About

Some A3 players appreciate the social and professional aspects of the game more than they do battling. Maybe some are lovers as opposed to haters. For these players, or Merchants, there is the Merchant's Guild. The merchant's guild offers several benefits, but also has limitations; most of which are listed right on the merchant guild's page:
  • Here is the full list of bonuses/limitations for a merchant:
  • Cannot use the trainer
  • Cannot battle other players
  • Cannot use the gym
  • Cannot be attacked by other players
  • Cannot initiate an attack in space
  • Discounted ad placement fee in all markets
  • Cannot leave the guild until your time is served
  • Cannot order hits on other players
There are also some not-so-obvious benefits to becoming a merchant:
  • You can keep credits in your pocket with no chance of losing them in battle. This is beneficial because you can avoid costly fees from BOW card usage and bank withdrawals
  • You can continue competing in the Loza Arena
  • Market listings last an extra 2 days (4 days total)

As you can read, battling and many battling-related features are disabled or become unusable to merchants. This is to ensure the integrity of the merchant's guild is upheld -- in other words, it prevents abuse by aliens seeking shelter from being attacked and building up battling-related stats like speed, strength, level etc.

At this point you may be wondering if merchant guild membership is lifelong or if you can join one day and leave the next. It's not that easy, but it is still simple. You can join the merchant's guild in increments of 15 days, for up to 45 days at a time.

How to Join the Merchant's Guild

So, how do you sign up for the merchant's guild? It's easy! Follow these steps:
  • Goto Georgetown
  • Look in the 2nd column, under the header Downtown
  • Find the Merchant's Guild link and click it
As you can see, it's pretty straight-forward with 4 links offering membership for 15, 30, 45 or 120 days.

IMPORTANT: ALTHOUGH MERCHANT GUILD MEMBERSHIP IS REVOCABLE, IT IS EXPENSIVE TO DO SO AND YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE ABILITY YET. ENSURE YOU ARE 100% ON BECOMING A MERCHANT.

Joining is as easy as clicking any of those 4 links. If you decide not to join, you can just click away from the page.

Questions

WHAT IF I WANT RENEW MY MEMBERSHIP TO THE MERCHANT'S GUILD?
You're in luck! You can repeat the steps above to renew your membership when you have less than 10 days remaining on your existing one!

WHAT IF I WANT TO LEAVE THE MERCHANT'S GUILD?
If you have decided that joining the merchant's guild was the wrong decision for you, you can leave. To leave the merchant's guild you need access to the The Beleaguered Pony in Georgetown. To access the TBP, you need a Fake ID. Once inside, you will need to talk to the bartender. You should see a list of drinks. The drink you need to purchase is called Business Man Bacardi. Purchase and consume the drink. Then go tell the merchant boss off (revisit the merchant's guild and follow dialogue)! Your merchant's guild membership should now be gone, allowing you access to the limitations listed above, but you also lose the bonuses.

HOW DO I TELL IF SOMEONE IS IN THE MERCHANT'S GUILD?
Easy! Using the default character icon set, you will see an icon like this: is a merchant next to their name. Information on how many membership days a user has left can be found at the bottom of their details page. It should say something like this:
Van Rensselaer is a member of the Merchant's Guild and cannot be attacked for 1 more days.

WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHEN MY MEMBERSHIP IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE?
Yes! You should red text under your alien image in your house when your membership is about to expire. It will appear when you have less than 10 membership days left.
